Bil Barkley
Minister of Education and Senior Adults

Bil moved to Texas in the fall of 1976 to attend East Texas Baptist University, where he majored in Sociology and minored in Psychology.  He served as the Student Assistant to the Director of the Baptist Student Union, and was a founding member of the Student Foundation.  Bil met Brenda Trent, a Business major and member of the Lady Tigers women's basketball team.  They married on August 9, 1980 and graduated together in 1981. 

Bil and Brenda served on the staff of Brookhaven Retreat (Christian  Camp and Conference Center) in Hawkins, TX.  In 1988, they moved to Fort Worth for Bil to attend the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He graduated in 1992 with a Master of Arts in Religious Education and a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling.  He became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 1995. 

Prior to coming to First Baptist Church, Bil served as Associate Pastor for Education and Missions at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Tyler, TX, from 1998 to 2007.  Other ministry positions include Southland Baptist Church, San Angelo, TX; First Baptist Church, Timpson, TX; and lay ministry at Trinity Baptist Church, Fort Worth, TX, and First Baptist Church, Hawkins, TX. 

Bil and Brenda have 2 children; Drew, born in 1984, and Meagan, born in 1987.  Brenda began working as a contractor for the Luminant (formerly TXU) Real Estate Office in March, 2007.  Bil enjoys reading, playing various musical instruments, a variety of artistic endeavors, racquetball, and many outdoor activities.
