A message from your leadership team at First Baptist Mt. Pleasant

As this last week has unfolded, we have watched to see how the COVID-19 virus will continue to affect our lives.  At this time, we are being directed to avoid public gatherings and to maintain a practice of social distancing.  For this reason, we are cancelling all our church activities through next Thursday, April 2.  We will continue to monitor the developing situation and will report back to you next Thursday.

The Student Ministry Golf Tournament fundraiser that was scheduled for April 4 has been postponed.  At present, the tournament has not been rescheduled.  We will notify you as soon as a new date is chosen.

Our initial livestreaming event went smoothly last Sunday morning.  I received a good amount of feedback.  Some of it was actually helpful.  It is an interesting dynamic to lead worship in a mostly empty auditorium.  We will be live again this Sunday morning at 10:45 a.m.  I am very grateful to our musicians and sound and video technicians who helped push the service out to you last week.  Facebook Live worked very well last week.  Some of you experienced difficulties with the live streaming on our church website.  Make sure that you have the Flash Player plug-in installed on your device.  We will also be broadcasting our service on K-Lake 97.7 FM.

Our church office remains open during this time.  Many of you have reported on your contacts with our homebound members and our senior adults.  Thank you for continuing to function as the church while we are unable to gather.  I have reminded myself frequently that God does not waste anything that touches our lives.  Life continues in the midst of this novel coronavirus disruption.  Ministry looks a little different.  Means of staying in touch are a little different.  We are being forced to tap into our creative resources.  I am grateful for the good work that our staff continues to do in these days.

This Sunday morning, I will be preaching from Psalm 139:1-18.  My sermon title is “When God Disappears”.  I am praying that God will use this great psalm to teach us, challenge us, and encourage us.
